About QuietSpecs
QuietSpecs covers one question: which version of this thing is actually quiet? We rank home appliances and household gear by how loud they are in decibels — dishwashers, air conditioners, fans, vacuums, range hoods, washing machines and everything else you live beside.
How we compare
- We collect the manufacturer's published noise rating for every model, at the fan or cycle setting the figure describes, and we say which setting that is.
- We read owner reviews in volume, looking for the complaints that repeat — rattles, compressor kicks, motors that get louder in year two.
- We weigh what quiet costs: longer cycles, lower airflow, bigger cabinets, higher prices.
- We record the price at each store when we publish, and re-check it as we update guides.
What we don't do
We do not measure decibels ourselves, and we never pretend otherwise. Published ratings are measured in test chambers under ideal conditions, so we treat them as a way to compare models against each other rather than a promise about your room — and we tell you where manufacturers are optimistic.
How we make money
When you buy through our links, the retailer may pay us a commission, and we show ads on some pages. That never changes the price you pay, and it never changes our rankings. We don't accept payment for a placement in a guide.
